I wish to state that some of these videos are very simple, but we must remember that the foundation skills of any endeavor
usually are very mundane and simplistic. The foundation of a house is not nearly as elaborate as the exterior appearance,
nor is catching and throwing a ball as exciting as the heat of play. The foundation is called the FOUNDATION for a reason.
Take your time, be persistent and time will work for you. All will come to you in time with persistent effort at the task.
Do not let the flowery exterior detract from the foundation skills.
These videos are intended with the spirit that we learn most from what we observe. What we hear and see impacts on us greatly
as it always has. So watch these videos as a way to see how it "CAN" be performed, observe the etudes as a means
to better learn them. I remember that I learned most of the great lessons from the Masters I came to know from listening and
watching them play over and over again.
Below is a performance of the Texas All State Snare Etude. I have played the soft passages two ways, one in the center and
pp passage near the edge, this is to give you a chance to hear the difference this makes. I suggest staying in the center,
while this demands more control, or rather more relaxed "control" I believe it sounds better. Notice the dramatic
stick heights in the piano to forte to fortissimo passages. I hope it gives you some thoughts about its performance. The metronome
is set to the dotted quarter. Be aware that I used a simple video camera and the built in microphone flattens out the dynamics,
so the softs are louder then in real life and the louds are softer likewise. But you get the jest of the etude.
To view any of these videos you must have Quicktime, please go to the video page for the Apple link to download for FREE the
current version for PC users. I use a Apple MAC so I apologize for this small inconvenience. But the time is worth it for
the students progress.

Below is a performance of the circle of 4th as I wish for my students to perform it. They are aslo to "SING" aloud
the numbers or "DEGREES" of the scale. This is to train their sense of "RELATIVE PITCH" for general musicianship
and specifically tuning timpani later.
